M and I have been talking about the next gen format wars for a bit now, and thanks to slashdot and the financial times, there is apparently more to talk about.
you know i'm thrilled about this. my family had a big discussion over break about the big battle. my dad seems to think that HD-DVD will win out because ot the Gates / Microsoft support. this of course just made me want blu-ray to win even more. (in case you didn't know, as a former PC-owner, i really really really really hate microsoft).
btw, i just learned last night that my PS3 upconverts DVDs as well as playing Blu-ray. and the picture quality for upconverted DVDs is pretty good. (i tested it against my other upconverting DVD player and the PS3 won hands down). so bottom line...despite the fact that there are no decent games out for the PS3 yet, everyone should still go out and buy one now.
I would contend that Rock Band is a decent game for the PS3, not that I've played it yet. Perhaps you should buy it and invite a few people over... just a suggestion. :)
I don't hate Microsoft like M does....but I LOVE Sony, so this news is RADICAL.
I may be wrong, but I believe that the PS3 does not upconvert all the way to 1080i blue ray quality though...just 720p. But I could be wrong about that. That would be amazing if it hit 1080i though. Of course, you need an HDTV that can play it right.
