Totally late Guitar Hero coverage

Here's a few photos from a guitar hero party a few weeks back. Yeah, I know, old news. Remember when these parties were the social highlight of the week? Or was that just the social highlight of my week... the photos were taken by several people (Me, Brigham, Ace, Lexia, etc.) though I don't know who took what. My apologies. So, here's the rundown.

Brigham was there,
but Ace was the star of the show.

Ace took this one of me.
Evil Jared (look at that face! So intense!)
Placing these photos next to each other almost makes Collin look like the antithesis of Jared.
And a few goofy looks to finish.

Just another GH post

Has anyone else noticed how awesome the set list is getting for Guitar Hero III? Here's just a sampling of artists for those who don't know: Santana, Pearl Jam, Bloc Party, Dead Kennedys, Pat Benetar, ZZ Top, Tenacious D, Weezer, Metallica, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kiss, DragonForce, Kiss, Aerosmith, Kaiser Chiefs, The Beastie Boys, Alice Cooper, The Who(!), Foghat, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cream, and (last but not least) The Rolling Stones. Phew! After all that awesomeness, how could I not pre-order a copy at my local BestBuy?I was kind of wondering why the box was so big, until I took a closer look.
Wow! Free guitar strap? Ok, so I knew that you got a free guitar strap in exchange for making a binding promise to BestBuy (seems like a good deal, eh?), but I thought you got it when you picked up your game. What an excellent mistake. I couldn't wait to open this baby up, but I waited patiently until I got home.
Wait for it... wait for it...
Bam! An excellent use of a box.
I bet this strap will look excellent with my black and white wireless guitar.

Yup, the guitar looks more excellent. I wish it did the same for me. Also, the strap does say Guitar Hero, like in the picture on the box.

PC and Mac? What?

So, according to the fount of all knowledge, Guitar Hero III is being developed for PC and Mac. Check it out:
On September 11, 2007, Aspyr Media and Activision announced that Guitar Hero III will also be developed for both the PC and Macintosh platforms. The game is expected to ship at the same time as the consoles, and will include USB-based Gibson Guitars.

More info can be found here.

Personally, I think this has the potential for sending GHacking into the stratosphere, but in all practicality, I don't really see it being a better experience than on the console. Sorry. I've just had too many hiccups with games on PC/Mac over the years that would kill a rhythm based game. I'll stick to the PS2.

More Guitar Hero news

OK, so first of all, sorry it's been so long since my last post. Hopefully this will make up for some of that. Second of all, there have been two more additions to the GH3 setlist:

Evenflow, by Pearl Jam
Lay Down, by Priestess

Cool. You can check out more about that here.

OK, so more news... Battle Mode. This might just change things a bit. Feelings might get hurt.

And finally, the new controller. It looks pretty weak in the photos, but I guess that's because they don't want to show off their pretty, new snap-on faceplates. Did I mention that it has the potential for custom necks? My vote would be for one with two sets of buttons, with the second further down the neck for when you are really rocking out. So far this is only for the Xbox360, so who knows what we'll get on the PS2...

Something you should know about

I must admit that this information is not NEARLY as cool as what is happening over here, but since I don't have a job that gives me these kinds of opportunities (I'm just trying to find a cure for HIV/AIDS - not that I'm bitter or anything), I'll just have to pass on the info that I have. And I must admit, it's pretty cool.

Some of you may know that the 12th Street Guitar Hero Fancier's Association meetings have more of a "soft rock" atmosphere lately, but Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s might change that. Most of you probably know about this already, but it's set out for release in July and they have finally released a (incomplete) list of songs that will be on it. So, for those of you who might be interested, here's the lineup so far:

  • I Wanna Rock (by Twisted Sister)
  • I Ran (by Flock of Seagulls)
  • Round and Round (as made famous by Ratt)
  • I Want Candy (as made famous by Bow Wow Wow)
  • Metal Health (as made famous by Quiet Riot)
  • Holy Diver (as made famous by Dio)
  • Heat Of The Moment (as made famous by Asia)
I'm going to guess that the lack of a "as made famous by" on the first two means they are the original cuts, but who knows. So far, no one has said how many tracks there will be (I'm guessing around 30), so let the speculation begin. If you really care, the actual press release announcing all of this nonsense can be found here.
