I now have a reason to go to Tokyo

So, I'm not a Gundam afficionado (I think I've made my interests pretty clear lately), but I can't tell you how cool I think it is that there's now a giant robot watching over Tokyo. What took so long?
Check out the rest of the photos over at Pink Tentacle. Please do it. They're awesome.

Also: a barrel monster and proof that nothing is above the awesome power of Scandinavian Design.

Boring...

Has my life been boring lately, or what? Turns out all I've got to report are these two semi-humorous photos. Enjoy.

Two Scoops!

Of late, my good buddy Jared has had a link to this as a part of his gchat status message. The following is the log of a conversation we had regarding the aforementioned link. Hopefully, you'll laugh. I sure did.

Dave: Yeah, so how pissed do you think their boss was when they found out they turned the freaking boat around for a box of cereal? "Next time guys, take the box with you."

Jared: I've wondered about that. But if you pause the video at 23 seconds, you'll see just how much they were craving the Raisin Bran. I'm sure the boss would understand if he could see their faces.

Dave: Maybe seeing those faces will make him realize what a bunch of wusses he hired

Jared: They're probably his sons.

Dave: actually, the guys face at 23 seconds make me think that the bran is just finally kicking in.

Jared: Ha ha! That's a very good possibility.

Dave: I was crying I thought that was so funny. Also, I love this comment: "I remember this from my childhood, but I never listened to the lyrics thoroughly. "This tugboat crew has a plan...?" That is so random. Imagine the ad guys sitting around a table with the jingle-writer (like Charlie from Two and a Half Men) saying, "How can we get a story into 30 seconds? How about a tugboat crew?!" Perfect!" Seriously, what is the plan?

Jared: To eat Raisin Bran. Then work. But they abandoned their plan in favor of eating more Raisin Bran.

Dave: I don't see that as a very good business model

Public opinion poll - Desert Islands

Imagine you are stuck on a deserted island for an indefinite amount of time. Would you rather be stuck with your best friend (of your same sex) or a member of the opposite sex that you don't really know?

Feel free to answer via the sidebar poll and leave your reasonings in the comments section.

A few clarifications: Assume that you are single. You cannot choose the member of the opposite sex. Legitimate monogamous relationships can be formed, if needed.

There was Ping and Pong to be had

Friday night kicked off a monster weekend with the 1st Annual Manhattan Stake Singles Ping-Pong tourney. Quite frankly, even though this was a "stake" activity, us downtown folk were clearly going to an away game. I took my camera, and tried some "creative" shots, to emphasize Jeff's speed. I'll let you decide if it was a good idea or not.
Jeff, clearly displaying his superior speed.
This serve was apparently so wicked, that his opponent could do nothing but wave his hands.
Look at how much ground he covers!
And that purple monochromaticity must have surely been a distraction.
There was also a women's bracket. I don't know them, so I'll refer to them as "Rocky" and "Blue." Despite all her pomp and bravado, I believe that Rocky lost.
Sadly, our man did not win. He still received a consolation towel to wipe the bitter sweat of defeat from his neck. Us Mormons, we believe in kindness. We also believe in striking several poses with pie tins that have been awarded us. This was quite the popular activity among the pioneers.

Thing I learned watching TV with my parents

Apparently, at least according to the Hallmark Channel commercial I just saw, the greatest gift of Christmas is Ernest Borgnine. Remind me not to open any packages with the Hallmark logo on them this year.

Richie Havens @ Church

Does anyone else find it slightly ironic and kind of cool that the man who played the opening set at Woodstock is playing at the Lincoln Center Building tonight?
